Vizio E321VL 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV - Black review

Bought one of these at a popular deal-a-day site. Including five bucks to ship, it was under a deuce. Yes, under a deuce.

It's worth MUCH more than that - a very pleasant surprise. For most people's purposes, the resolution, refresh rate, etc. are more than adequate. At proper viewing distances, you will not discern a difference between this and a much more expensive TV.

Set up is easy; the tuner is really, really good, and pulls broadcast channels like a champ. A bit of googling will uncover lots of proposed settings to tweak the picture. The set has some fairly useful ones built in ("golf," "movie," "standard," "football," etc.) but tweaking can make a difference.

The sound was even a pleasant surprise. Not great, of course - this is not a 'home-theatre-in-a-box', after all. But the front-firing speakers are much better than I'd have expected and beats any of the smaller LCD TV's I've heard.

We've enjoyed sports, streamed movies via a laptop, DVDs played via laptop and via DVD player ... all excellent. You can even use it as a monitor for your laptop, though I think it's going to take some serious tweaking to make that worth doing - text is not good ... some sort of resolution issue.

Never thought a low-end 32" LCD could be as rewarding as this has already been.

Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver)

Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver)

Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch review

I have been looking at getting a new TV for some time now, but I made sure I did my homework before purchasing. At first I was split between getting an LED TV or a Plasma. I visited my local Best Buy store and looked at the models on display. Both the plasma and the LED offer a beautiful picture, but I ultimately chose the LED. The reason for choosing the LED over the plasma came down to possible burn-in issues and image scrubbing with the plasma. I didn't want either on my mind and I knew the LED was a fantastic TV.

Now on to the TV...
After connecting my TiVo and getting everything plugged in, I turned on the TV. It automatically took me through the setup process. It found my wireless and I was able to connect very easily. Updates (I think there were 14) were downloaded to the TV within 2-3 minutes. Once the setup was complete I changed the input source to my TiVo and I was just stunned by the image quality. The color was perfect and the clarity was unbelievable. I also have a 55" Sony Bravia that was only 1 model year old, and the image quality of this Samsung completely outclasses the Sony. Samsung's Clear Motion 960 is evident because there is just no blurring when people move or through regular action scenes. The image is always super crisp and the colors are vivid and bright. I was watching a 1999 episode of Law and Order, and I tell you, it never looked as good. It looked as though it was made for 1080p broadcast, and we know that back in 1999 it surely wasn't. It was like watching the show on a blu-ray disc. I was just amazed. Everything you watch on this TV seems to be up-converted. All shows, despite their age, look amazing.

The Smart Hub feature is my new favorite tool. Having Netflix and other streaming services built right into my TV, rather than using an external device is absolutely the best. Smart Hub also offers so many other nice features like games, informative apps like weather, etc. The built-in web browser is a bit clunky to navigate, but certainly an awesome feature. I was able to visit many of my popular websites and save them to favorites with ease. Using the AllShare feature is also amazing because the TV was able to find movies and music on my computer and I was able to watch and listen to them over my house's WIFI seamlessly. This does require that you install software on your computer, but it was certainly not a hassle. Allshare is available via Samsung's website for PC, but if you use a Mac like I do, just download TV Mobili and it's the same thing and works great.

3D: unreal! The TV allows you, with a push of the button on the remote, to convert anything you are watching to 3D. Let me tell you, it is really cool and brings a whole new experience to whatever it is you are watching. The two included 3D glasses charge very easily through the included USB cable using the USB ports right on the TV. The glasses also very easily pair with the TV with a simple press of a button on the glasses. I watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, which was on HBO at the time and I converted it to 3D and it was simply amazing. I am looking forward to watching many of my favorite movies now in 3D. I also have a PS3 connected to the TV via HDMI and 3D movies look better than 3D movies look in the theater. I can't wait to get a few more titles in 3D now.

If you have a smartphone, like most people do now, there are apps available that simulate the remote control on your phone so you can use your phone as a remote - how cool is that! I downloaded the app to my iPhone and now I have an extra remote for my TV. I also have the remote app for my TiVo as well.
**NOTE**: The remote for the TV needs to be pointed at the TV for it to work it's best. If you point it slightly off-angle it doesn't seem to send the signal to the TV. Just be sure to point it at the TV and you'll be fine. The TiVo remote doesn't need line-of-sight to work, but apparently this one does, just be aware of it.

To sum up my review, if you are considering this TV along with a plasma or another brand of TV, don't even hesitate to get this TV. It is simply the best and blows away the quality (or lack there of) of other brands. I compared this TV with Panasonic's, Sony's, Sharps, etc. and these others just can't compare. This TV is slim, sleek and has tons of features. Quality was clearly the highest priority here and Samsung came through with flying colors. I look forward to many countless hours of TV viewing for years to come. Thank Samsung - job well done!

Cleaning the HDTV Screen.

how to clean hdtv screen ?
Cleaning a HDTV isn't as simple as cleaning the tradition television set.
Depending on the screen, there are many things that ordinary cleaning products can do to permanently ruin the delicate screens on most HDTV sets.

The safest way to clean the HDTV screen in your home is to use the microfiber clothes that many of the manuals recommend. Using high end cleaning solutions is not necessary. The damp cloth will usually do the job. Keep in mind that nothing should be dripping off the cloth, or you could end up with the creeping situation discussed earlier.

With spring cleaning fever on us today, many people are looking for ways to make their HDTV screens look like new. Unfortunately, the glass cleaners used on the windows will usually damage to the screen. The liquid works its way down to the bottom of the screen and then actually creeps back up behind the screen and the protective plastic. The screen develops large, dark smudges where ever this occurs.

Many of the cleaning solutions on the market also contain chemicals that slowly deteriorate the surface of the screens. This leads to streaks, scratches, and smudges on the surface that can not be wiped away.

The next best thing to do for your HDTV is to keep people away from the screen (especially children). You can avoid the smudges and dirt that comes with the finger prints. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth (such as the microfiber) will keep your HDTV screen looking great.

LG Infinia 55LW6500 55-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV with Smart TV

This is a great TV. Picture quality is superb & Passive 3D is excellent. Passive 3D is the way to go in my opinion. I love the fact that it has an anti-glare screen, my previous Samsung TV was horrible in my room cause it was so close to a window. Netflix, Amazon instant & PLEX make this TV a perfect Media Center built-in with very easy setup. Since I use PLEX on my Mac Mini it takes away from the need of my Apple TV. The only downfall this TV has is the speakers which are so-so, but I think that about all TV's. Nothing that THX Certified Surround Sound Speakers won't fix. Bottom-Line, this is a great TV that I would recommend it to anyone.
